Sonal Dhawan, PT, DPT

Sonal Dhawan is a Physical Therapist, licensed in the State of New York.  She holds a Clinical Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Long Island University, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the City College of New York.
Sonal first became interested in orthopedics during her first clinical affiliation at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.  During this clinical affiliation, she had the opportunity to observe surgeries and subsequently treat post-operative patients on their path to recovery.  This interest was further enhanced during her outpatient clinical affiliation at a private outpatient physical therapy office on the Upper Westside, where she had the opportunity to work with patients with sports injuries, joint replacements, arthroscopies and postural dysfunctions.
Sonal began her career as a Doctor of Physical Therapy at Lutheran Medical Center, where she worked with an outpatient patient population with various orthopedic and neurological conditions. During her time at the Lutheran Medical Center, Sonal had the opportunity to work closely with patients in need of ongoing physical therapy after their discharge from a hospital.  She treated patients with various conditions such as traumatic brain injuries, strokes, Parkinsons, joint replacements, repetitive stress injuries, and spinal surgeries. She also led in-service presentations educating the staff on evidence based practice and manual treatment techniques she learned from her continuing education courses.
Sonal uses an individualized exercise program in conjunction with muscle energy techniques, soft tissue and joint mobilization, myofascial release, and mobilization with movement to help correct musculoskeletal imbalances and dysfunction. She continues to take continuing education courses in evidence based practice and manual therapy to help provide the best quality care for her patients. In her spare time, Sonal enjoys a wide range of exercises including weight-lifting, kettle bell complexes, high-intensity interval circuits and pilates.
